Carlo Cesta: Sleep Country

pic

Carlo Cesta: Sleep Country
17 October to 14 November 2009
Opening Saturday 17 October from 3 to 6

Carlo Cesta’s exhibition Sleep Country can be read as a meditation on the prosaic world of objects and everyday materials. The sculptures merge metaphorical objects (garage doors, wagon wheels, security bars and the like) with formal sculptural strategies. Gentle references subvert pure abstraction and static minimalist forms aspire towards fluid meanings. Sleep Country takes the urban landscape as a point of departure drawing the viewer into a deeper space where public and private intersect, histories overlap and siestas rule.

Carlo Cesta was born in Toronto in 1958. He studied at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto, Canada, completing a year of study in Florence, Italy and graduating in 1980. He has exhibited his works extensively since the early '80s. Cesta was a featured artist of Perspective 94 at the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto. His exhibitions include: Dalgas Underground, Copenhagen, Denmark (1996), Rococo Tattoo (1997) The Power Plant, Toronto, (1997), Slowdownspeedfreak (2001), the Winnipeg Art Gallery, Winnipeg, Beyond/In Western New York (2005), Hallwalls, Buffalo N.Y., USA, Canadian Club (2005), Canadian Cultural Centre, Paris, France, hic (2006) Installations and Interventions at Hart House, Toronto, and International House of Sunshine (2007), at Diaz Contemporary, Toronto.

After talking to Carly about knitting, I went home and dug out my knitting box.
I found knitted portion of scarf in the box that I had no idea about. So I think I will turn it in to a cowl, since I don't have much time for a scarf this year, plus this pattern is going to take me forever to finish.

Of course, Milly loves the warmth and used the scarf as a blanket. It's actually a perfect size for her at this point. Maybe I will make it into Milly's little blanket. lol...
