one of a kind christmas show and sale

this time around, the artists get busy to take part in one of the largest arts and craft show in toronto, the one of a kind show (ooak). it's not just arts and craft, but has wide range of stuff from artesian chocolates to mango chutney to some sheepskin insoles for your shoes. i love looking around the booths to find something quirky, unique and truly a 'one of a kind' things, after all, it is called the one of a kind show.

the fierce bunnies by sonja ahlers is by far the cutest i've ever seen, anywhere. carly told me a lot about her friend sonja and her bunnies. they are just so adorable. i really want one but then i know i can't be satisfied with just the one.. because look at them. the bunnies are at their best together in a bunch.

jen's booth reminded me of a grandma's kitchen with a stylish touch. she has gorgeous selection of tea towels and aprons from her company freshly printed. i bought mason jar printed tea towel last year as a gift. what i love about her products are that they are made from environmentally conscious materials and produced just in the same manner. congrats jen!

when i saw this display, i was immediately drawn to it.. it is the &. yes. my weird obsession with ampersand. hilary cosgrove makes these plush alphabet letters from recycled suit jackets. how great is that!? i love how the detail of the jacket is preserved. each letter is custom made and you can send in your old jacket that's just been taking up room in your closet to have it transformed into your initial or a letter of your choice. i think it is a brilliant idea! i am going to have to dig my closet tonight, hopefully my last trip to value village didn't empty out my old jackets.

baby booties. there were lots and lots of them in the show.i just couldn't resist and had to snap a photo.

my friend rosalyn was also working. she recently started working at matsu jewelry and they exhibit every year at ooak. i've been meaning to go visit her at the shop, but never found the time to go yet. and it was great opportunity for me to see what she's been up to. they are all designed by the owner/designer, jennifer, but as apprentice, rosalyn's having fun and learning lots, according to her :D

last but not least, i was really taken away by baby elephant designs by joanne cheung. i read her newly self-published children's book entitled, sometimes.... it's a storybook i want to buy for my future children. i love the illustrations and its encouraging message to be who you are. hopefully i will get my hands on the book soon. haha..

keep up the good work everyone! only few more days to go!!!

cooking, photographying, baking, talking

grace invited me to her love nest on the weekend. her husband was away on a business trip and decided this would be a great opportunity for some gal-talking/bonding time. her house was cozy, warming and stylishly decorated. living in an apartment for a long long time now, visiting someone's 'house' always brings back mixed feelings: memories from my (or should i say my parents') house before i left home and longing for wanting a house for me and my future family.

she made amazing dinner for the two of us. the soontofu soup was amazing. spending 2 hours on a bus to grace's place was so worth it. she treated me really well with plenty snacks, ice cream, food and love.

i helped her take some photos of her pieces for the upcoming exhibition. but we didn't have clear direction and the photo session ended without any success. grace installed her pieces in the basement and the lighting was just horrible. things like this really pushes me harder to learn to photo well, in any circumstances. i guess i still have lots to learn...

after few tiring photo sessions, we baked some cookies. the recipe is from chef michael smith. this was the most chewy and soft choco chip cookie i've ever tasted! and i did the honours of making it from scratch. as i mentioned previously, i am no good at baking, and grace encouraged me to do it myself, and voila. i was so surprised how amazing they turned out to be!!! i am gonna have so much fun this winter, baking endless supply of cookies. muhahahahaah.

movember tribute

me and my sister's tribute to movember
our sincere shout out to mobros out there doing their thang~

green loop scarf

i finished knitting a loop scarf (a cowl scarf?) the other day.
super warm and i love the colour.
it was a very quick knit with simple pattern and since i looped it, it saved me from knitting extra long (i like my scarves looooong).

wool: rowan pure wool aran (sh676 lot4424)
pattern: 40 stitches. knit first row, purl second row, purl third row and repeat. it's garter stitch with extra row of knitted front side.
needle size: 10

chocolate chip cookies and kong

yesterday, i visited my friend bomi's place to bake some cookies. i'm not much of a baker, though i enjoy cooking, baking, for me, is a whole new skill that i have not yet acquired. i remember my attempts to bake pretzels one grade 8 bake sale and miserably failed... ever since then, most of my baking is done with betty crocker cupcake mixes.

bomi and her cousin minsun did all the preparing and baking.. i ... just took photos, played with her puppy, kong, and ate the delicious cookies. hee hee. poor kong really wanted to have some yummy cookies too. look at her sad puppy eyes... cute!!!

little monsters

i love love love grace's little monsters... or should i say little micro-organisms?
her figurines are inspired by micro-organisms which do not have a distinct form and are in flux.
she always surprises me with different forms every time i visit her studio. no two are alike. i highly appreciate the effort and passion she puts into her works. can't wait to see them installed in the craft biennial in january.

shop@ elevator art lab

grace and i went to the opening party at elevator art lab. the gallery is very very cozy and definitely has the unique touch of the artists who share the studios. many of the artists are from harbourfront centre's artist-in-residence and it was good to see everyone again. the shop has variety of artworks and gifts which are perfect for the holidays. i already had my hands on shuyu's needlefelted brooches and i want to get some printed cards and jewelery next time i visit. i strongly recommend visiting the studio.

"Elevator art lab is an artist run space, dedicated to the craft-based arts and to connecting the public with emerging artists who explore the boundaries of their medium."
